is it a 2 gang switch
Have you double checked for the missing yellow cable

Not sure you will find a white cable as securespark said

When I took the light down there was no white cable I've checked the cores and there's none there at all

The light which works is on a dimmer switch in living room this one is then in a dinning room on its own switch

Possiblywrongly connected to earth !!

Sorry only just caught on what you said about wrongly connected to earth il double check this tomorow

Even so wouldn't it still trip ?

It's only tripping when I add the red or blue on this certain cable to the circuit?

Can you expand on this?
Are there two switches for the light? One that works and one that does not?
