Likely a ceiling rose has a lose wire the British system is power goes to ceiling rose to ceiling rose so likely a rose near to the consumer unit.

I would with power off unscrew covers and genitally tug on each wire. Vibration can cause screws to become lose over time which is why all junction boxes with screws should be accessible so the screws can be tested.

Thanks. I was going to try going the route of the outlets first anyway.

I'm sure my 'happy ending' will come sooner rather than later...
