Lights dim when sockets fire

Hi,

We had our whole house re-wired, by a trusted person/company, a few months ago and each time various items plugged into a mains socket (small fridge, large TV, etc) are switched on we get a momentary dim of the lights.

I have also noticed that the main fuse into the building, a rather old looking brown plastic box, occasionally heats up. The electrician who did most of the re-wire, at the time, said he could not get the fuse out and had to work on it live.

Is it usual for either of these to be happening? If not, is it something the electrician should have done? The company is registered with the NICEIC, would these be good to approach regarding the work if indeed there is something not safe here?

Thanks in advance!

Phone up your local DNO ( //www.diynot.com/wiki/electrics:other:dnomap )

And tell them that your lights are flickering and your service cutout is getting warm, and they should send someone out to take a look at it and hopefully replace it.

I'd not say anything about your electrician trying to pull the fuse...no one but the electricity company is supposed to touch it!
