i am looking for some advise regarding a lintel. My sister has a detached single garage built with single breeze block and she is looking to install a side door that she can access from the back garden.

I have managed to get a shot of a stihl saw and I am planning on cutting the hole. I was planing on using 10mm steel as the lintel so I could cut the top line slide in the steel then cut the other lines and knock out. It is a peaked roof with the wall that the door is getting fitted on being a load bearer.

Does this sound a feasible option as I have never done anything like this before.

Thanks

A 10mm steel plate has got virtually no bending strength over anything other than very short distances.

You'd be better off with a prestressed concrete lintel.

It's impossible to give any further advice without knowing loadings and span.
