lintel installation advice needed

I have a 3.8M twin lintel to install in an outside cavity wall. There is a 1.2M wide window directly and centrally not far above the position of the new lintel.
My question is regarding the needles. How far above the position of the lintel can/should the needles be fitted ?
Is the next course of bricks above ok, or should there be a few courses between the lintel position and the needles above.

As close to the top of the lintel as possible

We usually remove 3 course of bricks, make sure you have room to slide the lintol in when putting in the props.
