My neighbour want's me to fit 2 windows for him in his lounge but there are no openings in the wall yet.

It's a cavity wall so facing brick externally and internally it's all covered with wallpaper.

I expect a catnic cavity lintel is required with cavity closers to sides and bottom and this needs notifying to local building control.

I have acro props and can hire a couple of strong boys to support above where the lintel will go.

My question is will the internal finish be disturbed so much so that he'll have to have the whole wall re-decorated?

    Any advice welcomed

    Cheers

    Homer

chances are yes, but depends on how neat you cut the hole, how old the plaster is and how perfect you want the finish, for a perfect finish id skim the whole wall after your done then redecorate.

OK thanks, I thought as much but was just wondering if anyone had any tips or had done it themselves.

He seems to think I'd be able to do all the work from the outside and work my way into the inner leaf as far as the back of the plasterboard and then slice and fold in the sides and top of the plasterboard with the wallpaper still on it!

That sounds like a nightmare to me and would take a lot longer to do.

    Cheers

Yes then I'll just turn up with the windows and fit them into his neatly prepared openings, job done haha.

Anyway, his 'suggestion' about cutting and turning the plasterboard with wallpaper in tact is a complete non-starter. Even if you were able to cut accurately it simply wouldn't fit.

He has to be some kind of joker.

He is having a laugh I know!

I think it's more his wife who doesn't want any mess inside her lovely spotless lounge, Not that I have a problem with that but as I said to them both, some jobs are just like that.

You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs ;)
