We are just about to start work on our listed building. we have secured planning consent for the work to be done. i understand that work that we want to do can be zero rated for VAT.
we have builders doing work but also we are doing some DIY. when we go to buy plaster board and wood can we ask the timber merchants to take the VAT off?
can anyone help me with what and how we get the zero rated VAT please.

as with any vat, you either pay it and claim it back or it is off-set against any already owing.

you will be charged vat for goods as normal.
