Hi, wondered if anyone has any advice or experience with the following problem (getting nowhere with builder).
Live in a new build with no chimney and have living flame gas fire, getting an unbelievable draught from it, so much so have boards and towel infront of it (when it is really windy towel moves with wind). Is this normal / acceptable ?
Thanks for help

Am I right in assuming this is a balanced flue model? If so there should be no draught. This could either be because the flue isn't sealed properly in the wall or the casing is not fitted properly.

In either case do not use the fire until it has been checked by a registered installer.

maybe you have a power flue fire. Does a fan run before it starts? If so it will have a draught as you have a large hole to outside through fire but you shouldnt get any draught when fires on right?

Hi firstly DO NOT TURN ON THE FIRE call an R G I and he will do the tests to see if the flue is complete in its length and of the correct material and termination to the outside it could be on an R type adaptor on the ridge or just coming out of the roof.
whoever fitted the fire if he was CORGI reg would have smoke tested it and spillage tested it but with what you say it should never have been left connected as it would be classed as I D
if in doubt ring corgi and get them to do an inspection of the job
if its a new build then it should have been notified to corgi under the building regulations
S do not just leave it get someone to check it out and make sure you ask to see his corgi ID card and look on the rear to see if he is covered for gas fires

PS... the flue will be of the concrete block type which are built into the wall during construction
hope this helps mick

We have a balanced flue, power flue and an open flue. Must be one hell of complicated fire.

If OP bothered to say what fire he bl00dy had then we would not have to guess,

he has no chimney and is getting a draught even with board and towel infront of it (obviously not got it on) so surley it can only be a powerflue

Thanks for all replys, v much appreciated.
Fire is a Verine Portway, Quasar powerflue radiant fire, model number QPF 16NVM.
Thanks again,
Dave
