Locating underground irrigation valves

Anyone got any ideas how to locate buried 2way solenoid valves (hunter)?!

I have bought a house with an irrigation system. The operate via a 2 way solenoid valve. they were a bit hit and miss in operation. I have got some working by replacing valves, cleaning valves or just bleeding them. I have one with an electrical issue and I have one that won’t drop once it is on so it is a valve issue. I don’t know where the valve is!! Anyone got any ideas how to locate it?!

I think it is the first in the supply circuit as when stuck on the sprinkler doesn’t drop if I run other outlets which worked on the others presumably because it dropped the pressure. So I could dig from the supply but it is a VERY long way!

Hire a “cable avoidance tool” (CAT) and trace the cables.
Or maybe a friend has a metal detector?
