Loft conversion - do I really need to fit a sprinkler system

So what about all the old building that are 3 or 4 floors built in the 1900's? should they all be retro-fitted with sprinklers or closed off hallways?

Anyone any idea whether you can actually buy the kit and get a plumber/electrician to do the sprinkler system needed for a open plan loft conversion to confirm to building regs. Looking in to it the system itself seems fairly simple but quotes for a couple of sensors and pipe work seems around 2 grand. Before anyone starts berating me saying there isn't a price to be put on safety there is and that is what these companies are capitalising on.

Be good to hear from others as to their experiences of trying to explore options and whether people have had systems installed and their experience of this

Thanks Dan
