It was in telecommunications and computers rather than electrical installation, but I used to have one client who sometimes seemed to balk at what I regarded as very reasonable labor charges, I think in part through not realizing exactly how much preparation work went into configuring equipment, programming custom software etc. before I even turned up at the premises to install it.

Albeit in relation to 'intellectual', rather than physical taks, I'm forever having that problem with clients, many of whom judge the amount of time/effort involved by 'the end product'. That is not uncommonly just 'half a dozen or so' sheets of paper, and it can sometimes be extremely difficult convincing a client that 'hundreds of hours' of research, analysis etc. were involved in preparation of those few pages!. Unfortunately, I do not have a 'materials' element of charges which I can inflate to compensate for that!
