Loop in Ceiling Rose

Are you confident at using the multimeter to measure voltage AC?
Can you post a photo of the multimeter?

Multimeter pics posted, the first one is on the off position and the second one is the setting used when testing the L & N. I have never used one of these before so might be a bit of a donut when it comes to this stuff.

sometimes it is better to put the pics in with the post, using the code by the photos it is easier for others to see them rather than searching for them.

The second picture is set on 200 ohms and can be used for reading resistance or continuity, preferably after checking there is NO voltage first using the 600 volt AC position to the RIGHT of the off position.

To test mains voltage on anything else apart from the 600 volt AC setting may damage the meter.

Do not use the 600volt DC position to the LEFT of the meter, for measuring mains voltage.
So unless 100% confident dont try to measure mains voltage with the circuit ON

The next step would be to test the wires with the power on, if you are not 100% happy doing this please do not risk injuring yourself and get someone in.
