Loud banging from water pipes

Our cold water pipes have recently started banging almost constantly (very loud like someone hammering on a door). Our plumber said the problem was a valve in the cold water storage tank & has just replaced the whole tank due to wear & tear but the problem remains.

We've tried running the cold taps which sometimes help but sometimes make it worse. Turning the stop cock off works temporarily but noise starts as soon as water turned back on.

Plumber is mystified (typically the only time noise seems to stop is when we manage to get plumber round). Any suggestions :x

Thats just typical! I seem to be able to cure plumbing nosies just by turning up too it can be quite frustrating.

Has your plumber tried a PRESSURE REDUCING VALVE on the incoming mains at this sounds very much like water hammer?

Also was the new valve i he fitted in the tank (sory sorry cistern) an equilibrium one?
