I have a rather long but skinny and low loft space that I would like to board out for storage. I say storage but its going to have rather regular traffic.

The original joists arrangement is rather fragile and even standing in the loft will crack the sealing below. So I know I need to strengthen it.

The widest span is only just shy of 3m. So I believe the lowest profile standard joist option would be 75 x 122 wood joists spaced every 400mm. Can anyone recommend me any lower profile options? Also do I really need this for a loft space? I know I have seen many boarded out lofts with a lot less then this but have no idea what would be considered a safe option.

Any advice or options would be most appreciated

Thanks

How come it would crack the ceiling just by standing in the loft?
What are your current joists and spacing?
