I have a 12v AC transformer supply to lights in my garden. I want to add a 12v low energy lamp in a summer house. This will only work on DC supply. I understand that the answer may be a Bridge Rectifier. Assuming a 11W 12v low energy bulb please can you advise on what I require and how to use?

12v AC or DC are the same as far as a normal bulb is concerned. Is your low energy bulb a LED type lamp?

If it is actually a normal (filament) bulb then it'll work fine, no need to convert to DC, it'll work fine on AC.

If it is an LED, then you will need either a bridge rectifier or some kind of diode, not too complicated though.

Your problem will be whether the transformer in question can provide the additional current.
Hope this helps

Guessing it's some form of fluorescent or LED type, the OP says it only works on DC.

question is what is this lamp that will only work on 12v dc?

other thing although its easy to insatll a bridge rectifier for just the one lamp, will the existing transformer be able to supply the extra load?

Is the transformer electronic or wirewound?

You can not rectify the output of an electronic transformer.
