Hi All,
If the isolation valves are in correct position- allowing flow around CH, then how it is that (after cleaning/checking) the filter, when I undo the vent, their is neither any air nor water coming out?

It might be worse than that....

I don't know the unit's design so took it off and on a couple times, each time the vent nut being entirely removable- no air nor water came out. Gradually became more convinced of the design.

Then I removed the magnet tube from the plastic lid. Threaded part with o-ring.

Trouble appeared to be jointing compound (?) creamy smeared-on-but-set to a hard/crumbly texture. This was -within the threads of where magnet tube joins the top section.
This was also smeared right across the aperture of the vent. Hence no air moving..

I cleared it with a hypodermic needle. Plug with consistency of chalk came out.
Unit now works fine.

Would I be mad to imagine that installer smeared some (spare?) over the threads accidentally blocking the vent? The internals don't seem to need compound as are sealed with o-ring so wonder why this was done?

Lastly, I don't think it ever vented successfully on instal' as the water level in filter was about 1" below rim when I first opened it.

I could be entirely wrong about it being joining compound but there shouldn't be anything else swimming about and setting in the system, should there?

Should I say anything to the installers?/Magnaclean?

It's been in place for about 4 days.

Its been installed for four days? Why are you even messing around with it? Why are you trying to vent or even open it for that matter? Also The magnaclean doesnt need vented. Stop messing with things you know nothing about! And im sure when it starts leaking you will blame the installers!

I'd give that a 2/10 for useful. And an 8/10 for patronising. You go ahead with the 'spleen'.....doesn't bother me... :D

The magnaclean doesnt need vented
Do you mean it doesn't need venting....?

Well it does, but only when you clean it. Which you might do if you wanted to see how much gunk it should not have collected so recently after an install. Which is off topic, but you did ask....

Not sure what you are thinking I am thinking about venting it...but your further leap (you are welcome to it-I couldn't care less :D) to prognostications of leaks and unfair claims to installers..... seems a common theme among a minority fixated on 'bashing' rather than helping....yawn.

It's not really what the place is all about is it?-... DIY'er raises a question about something that's smeared and set, covering a valve, making device not work as it should. Then they post that it's fixed and ask whether they should mention it to installers, and if it might not be what it appears to be.

Suffice to say I read (prior to posting) a fair bit about these units and the fun and games to be had with o-rings and threads crossing, leaks etc etc.

Trades are clearly sick of all being tarred with the same brush as a minority of their number who are dishonest/corrupt/inept. Same as any group/trade/profession. But,... if I balls up something, what would you know about my integrity and the likelihood of my deceiving/defrauding a tradesman by claiming otherwise.
Your slur, I think evidences what I am saying above. In any case, why you did it, is your problem and reflects badly on you.

So because you read up on the topic you're a expert! Its people like you that tradesmen hate doing work for. No doubt ul be on here again in the future to fix your boiler because you read somewhere how to do it. A bit of paste on the vent is not going to stop your magnaclean working. Catch a grip! Pay for your boiler to be service every year which will include cleaning your magnaclean. Suppose you already read somewhere how to service your boiler so you will do it yourself!
