Hi All

Could any of experts tell me what are regulations on down lights. Planning to strip my friends old kitchen ceiling fit new plaster board and in-coporate new down lights. Once the old ceiling is removed I believe the joists are 7 inch and 5 inch fire rated down lights leave 2 inch air gap. Is this ok or should the ceiling be lowered down.

With window being quite tall the maximum the ceiling can be lowered is 2 inch.Thanks in advance.
