Mains water connection

You could always come in above ground through an Insuduct if it did ever burst.

How does this look? All prepped up and ready to go? There was a pipe insert in the alkathene which I’m guessing I should stranger over to the plasson fitting?

Any tips with fitting it?

Also the photo shows it’s about 3-4mm thick alkathene.

That’s right, the black rubber pushed into the Plasson fitting.

I couldn’t get the pipe insert to go into the allathene so I’m guessing it only goes on with a brass fitting and you leave it off when using the plasson fitting?

I don’t fit inserts when I repair black alkathene.

do you find older Alkathene less reliable than modern poly?

Most repairs I do are on the black and it’s usually splits lengthways where it’s been touching a large stone.

Blue could be the same once it’s been in the ground a few years. I’ve had one repair I did with blue burst which could have been a fault with the pipe.

And the only other 2 leaks i’ve seen on blue were from a very obvious kink, and another from what I would say is a poorly designed fitting/insert

Yeah. I was more worried that it was going to be screeded over for the UFH. As it's now been revealed that this area is not being built up and is under the plinth, then its not a massive concern.

And, my comment about mdpe included sheathing/wrapping it when installed because the existing alkathene is perhaps not!

Very much so, I find the older stuff goes hard and more brittle after years and splits as @Ian H mentions, the modern stuff may do too but I've not come across a piece that's been in the ground for 40odd years yet, time will tell I guess.
