Making sense of a lighting circuit

I have a one way light switch which operates 4 lights distributed across the room. This means that all 4 lights switch on/off based on the position of this switch.

There is one set of T&E in the switch. These are heading to a light fitting that also has the live feed and one further cable. I assumed that this "further cable is providing power to another of the 4 light fittings which is then daisy chained across to the others.

My quandary: the other 2 light fittings have a single cable and the final one has two cables. I am at a loss as to why there are two lights with a single cable. I was expecting only one of these 4 lights to have a single cable - indicating the end of the circuit.

I hope this explains my situation but please let me know if there are any questions.

That's the only conclusion I could draw. Bad practice?
Is there a test that can be performed to determine which end of the cable matches which in this situation?

I am aware of the Continuity function I can use to identify the Switch cable and obviously the live fed will be detected by the voltage detector.

Thanks all. Are there any easy methods to know which end of the cable belongs to which across multiple holes in the ceilings? I can't pull as the cable is clipped under the ceiling.
