My manhole outside the kitchen, under the window is blocked. I got drain rods to try. But the manhole is too small, the rods are too big for it. I can't put it into the drain pipe. the angle is very sharp. What should I do? Thanks.

Get the shovel out and start digging.

It is pointless having rodding access if you can not get the rods in.

Your rod ( and staff) wouldn`t be much comfort then , Noseall - I thought with your name you might`ve been an ancestor of David who wrote those words ( Psalm 23) Anyways the OP might have a 12" plastic manhole which, though satisfying building regs etc . aint much use in the real world  You might be lucky and get the blockage away by agitating around at the bottom of the manhole with a floormop - make sure the head is on secure ! otherwise you are @ the mercy of the Powered Drain Jetter and their high £££ .

FOCUS sell a 25 ft drain cleaner for £25; it's like a larger version of expanded curtain wire with a turning handle, with a claw at the end. It will fit down a basin waste (if you're lucky). It's intended for waste pipes up to say inch & a half, so may not work in a 4" sewer.
