For a while now i`ve thought it was a waste of time and i`ve just switched it off at the isolator and the fans spinning anti-clockwise.
The 3 wires inside (from top to bottom) are
black
grey
brown

I presume its a timed one but i`ve know idea on how to change the duration that its on for. But my main question is are the wires in the correct order?? with it running the wrong way and what order should they be in.

Many thanks

As far as the wiring is concerned, if the fan runs at switch on & continues to run for a period after swich off then it is wired correctly & altering the connections will make no difference to the direction of rotation. As far as the time out period is concerned some have fixed timers, but the adustable ones have a small pot. which you vary as required. If you can post a photo(of the part inside where the connections are made, but switch the power off before removing the cover) then we will be able to tell you hopefully

Cheers jj, any ideas on why the fan runs anti-clockwise then.
Hopefully you can make out the wires in the photo

Not really 100% sure from the blurred photo but I do not think you can vary the time on that one. I also think that you cannot change the direction, but you could try swopping the 2 blacks on the R.H. side of the pic., I think they are an AC motor, but maybe not.

This can be adjusted for run time. You can see the variable resistor adj. to the mains terminals.

The three wires are L (permanent), N and switched live (SW). When the cord pull or switch is operated, the SW goes live and the fan runs as long as SW is live or until the timer runs out.

I assume that your query about the direction of rotation means you think the fan is blowing in the wrong direction. If this is the case, then simply turn it around so what we're looking at is against the wall/ceiling.

Or am I missing something?

If I turned it round Paulie the part that fits into the flexi pipe in the wall would be facing outwards into the bathroom itself. Plus the coverplate wouldn`t go on nor would it sit flush against the wall:rolleyes:
Tried swapping the 2 black wires over jj and it still runs anti-clockwise, blows in instead of out

Sure it isn't the wind causing it to spin anti-clock?

can you not unscrew the actual fan from the plate, turn it around, then screw back onto the plate? that is generally the option for reversing 240v fans.

You mean the wind blows at the exact time that I turn the light on

The fan will only fit on one way, it screws in from the back and can`t be turned around.
Surely somebody must know whats wrong with it, or perhaps its a faulty one.
The beggar blows instead of sucks 'o`er missus' :D

If it is sucking air into the room instead of out then it is faulty, that is why they are called extractor fans. You cannot easily reverse the direction of an AC motor so I think you are going to have to replace it.They are about a tenner so I don't think it will break the bank.
