Marble scratching repair?

ok got a new multi burner today and put into position to see how it looks , then i wanted to look at the fireplace behind it, so i slide it out of the way not thinking about the marble and how soft it is..doh!

what can i do?

can i use a marle polish compound one and buff it out?

or is it a grinder, 800, 1000,2000 wet orbital sanding job?

How big is the slab?
You might consider taking it to a monumental mason, but it would not be cheap.
That is quite a gouge, I think you can forget angle grinders etc.

yeah might try and polish it out with g6 car polish stuff and a buffer.. jus tto make it less visible. I think a mason would be too much..the slabs, are 12" x 24" and 24" x 16"... if it works i'll post pics of how it ends up, for anyone else careless like me..

well i forgot i would post back if i got it sorted...

car polish never worked, but did make it look nice when i was finished...

so i decided to give a lash with a 240 grit orbital sander..started to work a treat, then when finished i used a 1500 then 3000 grit diamond disc with the orbital using water also to polish back up...here's the results i'm pleased:
