Hi guys,

New to the forum so be gentle! :D

Currently building a Gazebo on top of my decking & not sure which material to use for the roof. Don't think that my budget will stretch to marine ply so was thinking of either OSB3 (told not to by local timber yard) or Shutterply. Both would be topped with roofing felt. Are there any other viable options?

Area is approx 4m x 4m & supported by 2x6 beams (pitched).

Any advice greatly received.

Thanks

Pete

Go for an exterior grade ply that is WBP (water and boil proof) and you should largely be ok. Shuttering ply will be that anyway but its only moderate quality.
Have you considered felt shingles rather than a plain roof.....easy to put on, and can look attractive enough.
John :)

Thanks!

Not looked at them tbh. Somewhere in the back of my head I was thinking I'd top the front (only side we'd see) with wood shingles. I'll have a look at th felt ones too.

Thanks again

Pete

funny how people love to bandy that one around "WHAT YOU NEED IS MARINE PLY MATE"usually totally over the top spec for most jobs unless your building a boat !

It's going to be behind a roof covering, so dry?

OSB3 will be fine.

Tis annoying.

Most people don't get that WBP and marine have the same bond strength, but marine ply has slightly durable timber, the stuff was designed for racing boats that would be thrown away after a short time.

Such a huge waste of money specifying it for buildings.
