The UK will hold European Parliament elections on May 23, the government has confirmed today.

Who would have thought it, this was announced on the last day that would-be voters can register.

If you know anyone young, or living away from home, or recently moved house, pass them this link and tell them they have until midnight to register online.

It might not have been a deliberate ploy by the government to make it difficult for such people to vote.

Or maybe....

"Prime minister Theresa May had consistently said that the UK should not hold these elections — almost three years after the country voted to leave the EU."

So we should all have seen it coming.

You haven't got to vote if you don't want to.

However, countries which are members of the EU are allocated seats in the European Parliament, and they must enable citizens to vote.

You may be surprised to hear that the UK is a member of the EU.

I gather you are unaware that the Brexers have been unable to agree the terms on which they want to leave, and have not accepted any of the options offered to Parliament.

What a pity the Brexers didn't agree among themselves what they wanted before the referendum.

I gather you are unaware that T May is a remoaner and has done her utmost to derail Brexit. Individually we don't have to vote, but I asked who insisted the UK takes part in the elections, T May didn't decide on a whim, did she.

The UK government did, when it signed the treaty to join.

And I suppose you could say the squabbling Brexers like Rice-Pudd and Buffoon Johnson did when they voted against the Leaving agreement. If they hadn't voted against it we'd be out by now.

Nobody else forced the UK government.

Glad to have been able to reduce your ignorance a tiny bit.

So no other members signed? Well you live & learn.
Not sure what that means.

We are voting because of an eu diktat forcing us to, that is the reason.
It is what members of the EU do when the time comes.

I thought the wonders of democracy were all the rage.
We need to determine the will of the people.

What would you be saying if other elections were not held when they should be?

We are voting because of an eu diktat forcing us to, that is the reason.

Nonsense.

We have MEPs because we are members of the EU. We joined voluntarily.

There is no EU diktat that Brexers must squabble and fail to agree how to leave.

Is it ironic that Nigel Farage has often claimed the EU to be undemocratic........

Although he has been allowed to be an MEP, campaiging against the EU

That would be like joining the Conservative party and campaigning for Socialism :ROFLMAO:
