Only my opinion as a DIYer - I junk the supplied wastes that come with Ikea and Victoria gear etc and have McAlpine stuff on standby....chances are you are going to need it anyway!

Doesn't need to be super tight and a smidging of sealant on the seal will add belt and braces depending on how well the underside of the bath's waste hole has been finished.
I once used the overflow and waste a customer supplied. The overflow used internal o-rings and pushed together. About 2 years later, the top part of the flexi fell off the overflow fitting. Showering wasn't an issue but if the customer had a bath the water would come out of the upper part of the hose when the bath was emptied. I now use jubilee clips for piece of mind.
