Hi

I just changed the battery to my Accenta Alarm.

I had set it to tamper setting and fitted the new battery.

I then turned off the MCB to move the keypad panel.

I have not yet opened the keypad panel but the MCB will not go back on.

There is not much resistance when turning it on and it springs straight back to the off position.

Could the MCB be damaged. is it a simple switch out switch in repair.

Thanks

Just a thought, try pushing it further into the off position.

Thanks for reply.

I have tried that and it still won't work.

I have also switched off the power to entire board and tried to reset switch.

Still trips.

Have you been doing any wiring or possibly introduced a fault thus causing the mcb to trip............just a thought.

Sounds like you may have a faulty mcb. Are we talking about an mcb in a consumer unit? Could you try swapping it with one of the same rating that is also in your CU? It is a simple enough job to change an mcb BUT only if you are competant to do so. If you have any doubt then you shouldnt attempt it as CU's are damgerous places to be poking about in.

Regards.

If you switch off everything at the main switch, can the MCB be reset then?

If yes - there is a fault on the circuit.
If no - the MCB is broken and needs to be replaced.

I have not done any wiring.

The MCB did not trip. I switched it off and now it will not go back on.

There is a point when attempting to switch on the fuse about 7/8th of the way back where the power goes on to the alarm and when I push it a bit further it goes off again.

no I switched off the main switch in the curcuit board and it still would not go on

btw it is a contactum board.

can it only take contactum mcb's

Sounds like a faulty mcb.

I imagine you need to get the alarm powered up again soon.

What amperage is this mcb?

In the meantime possibly someone competent could wire the live wire into another B6 (lighting perhaps) to temporarily get the alarm going if it's important.

Is that difficult?

Unless there is another way to stop the alarm going off in 6 hours when the back up battery dies?

Hi guys, thanks for your help.

I have put alarm back into tamper mode, pulled out my ladder and turned off sounder outside and taken out battery inside.

Hopefully that has killed off alarm tonight (reminder - take 6 cell maglite to bed just in case)

So no longer any urgent rush, but I reckon I need to replace that MCB.

Thanks once again.

This is the second time I have used this forum and I am amazed at the speed and clarity of the responses. (and helpfulness)
