MCBs for cable attachment. not busbar.

I need a couple to go in a generic enclosure - are there any makes I should avoid which don't have cable entry points behind where the busbar would go if they were in a CU?

You mean the likes of the old wylex where the screw went through the busbar? Crabtree starbreakers, Square D KQ/SQO/QOE - (you maybe able to remove the pickups from the KQ/SQO)

All I can say is that I have fitted an extra (modern) MK MCB to the old style Sentry Unit, using a kit supplied by MK. With this kit, I fed the MCB via a flexible cable link, rather than a solid busbar. It worked very well.

No - if I look at, for example, a Siemens or MK MCB, there's a box terminal about 2cm behind the busbar slot. The screw which clamps onto the busbar also tightens the box terminal, so you could use either to supply the MCB.

There will be external DP isolation.

Ban - as you point out, many MCB's have both a box terminal and a slot.

The busbar design determines which is used to attach the MCB to it.

I would say with almost certainty that if your MCB has a box terminal, it will suit attachment to a cable.

worth checking the short circuit capacity M rating,stamped on the mcb merlin gerin pretty reliable (M4.5 I think) and have no busbar slot.
Personally dont rate proteus.

I can't think of any modern domestic breakers (apart from some Square D, Merlin Gerin & Crabtree Starbreaker, which can all have a "stablock" method of attachment).

However, many older breakers (in the days when busbar design was far more individual) don't have box terminals.

Not fussed, as long as it's reasonable. I want a 30mA RCD, 2xB6 & 1xB16, and for no reason other than anal retentiveness I would prefer the same make for all 4 - was going to trawl eBay...

Hagar is always the choice for seperates - Their RCD's being the cheapest would also swing things.

The Wylex ones (New Type) on my CU have a large terminal at the top and bottom, as they clip onto the din-rail, and the pin of the multi-pin busbar sits inside the lower feed terminal of the breaker. Alternatively they can be wired cable in and cable out if needed.
