MCO Smart Z-wave dimmer install - Help!

I am getting around to installing a Z-wave dimmer and removed my previous light switch and have a red wire and a black wire (and an yelllow/green earth).


the dimmer is an MCO home MH-DT311 and shows the following diagram;

I thought it would be straightforward using just the live and neutral connections but when I wire it like that it is permanently on and just flickers!

Any help appreciated

The black, unless you have a second black you haven't mentioned - is the switch wire, the O in your first connection diagram.
