As per title really, I'm gonna get my garage to do the cambelt with a genuine cambelt kit and was gonna get them to do the waterpump, is it worth getting a genuine pump or are they all much of a muchness?

05 1.9dci BTW

Thanks chaps :D

If you intend to use a Renault dealer to do the work, then they will use the genuine Renault part......an independant garage will use an original equipment one, for a fraction of the Renault price (around £30).
So long as the impeller is metal rather than plastic it will be fine. I've used pumps made by KWB (if memory serves) and it was a good bit of kit.
For the timing belt, insist on one made by Gates...its the best there is.
John :)

Hi Burnerman, no this is going to an independant, so is a Gates Cambelt Kit better than a gen Renault one then?

The independant, would probably use a OE pump, as used by the dealer, as the dealer would use the same manufacturer. The parts aren't made by the manufacturer, they are outsourced.

If you go to the dealer for a clutch replacement, the dealer doesn't even bother with it, they send it to a local clutch place, so farm the work out. Same if your windscreen gets broken, they farm the work out.

Put it this way - the genuine Renault belt will be fine, but more expensive than one from a motor factors. Gates belts are the best out there, but naturally enough there are plenty of copies coming in from the East.....avoid them like the plague.
John :)

Sorry to hijack this thread.

John - Do you know of any suppliers in the UK for Gates belts? Looked at their website and it only listed US suppliers. I am not sure if they do a belt for my engine anyway as it wasn't released to the US market only Europe but worth finding out.

Sorry mate I didn't see this reply, but any motor factor worth his salt will have a supplier of Gates belts - they are very common over here.
If there is a problem, get the genuine Renault one and see if they'll knock you a couple of quid off.
John :)

Although Gates are the market leader, other brands are available.
Continental/Contitech.
Quinton Hazell.
Goodyear.
Dayco.
These are all top brands too.
Appologies to the ones I've left out.
