The air con on my 03 plate megane is not working.
If I switch it on nothing happens.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Is this a common problem with megane's?

"nothing happens" indicates an electrical fault, but if you hear a click under the bonnet, like a clutch engaging and the engine revs drop, then it needs regassing if its still not cooling.

You say you have switched it on, but can we assume you have the fan speed set to 1 or more?

Just checking.

Just some additional info.

When I switch it on nothing happens.
The engine tone doesn't change or the revs dip.
The light comes on but no ones at home.

I've had the car for 1 year and this is the first time I've tried the air con.

If it is the fuse do you know which one?

Magane 1.5DCI

and the blower fan is definitely turned on? The air con wont start if the fan isn't running.

Turn the engine on, turn fan to position 2 and recirculate on the face vents, make sure heat setting is minimum (ie. no heat) and push the A/C button. See if something happens then. If nothing happens, try the fuse (it will be in the owners manual, OR there may be a diagram near the fuse box). If still nothing happens, try an air con specialist.

The fan was definitely switched on.
I switched it up to 4 but still no change in temperature.

Hopefully it is just the fuse.
But normally if a fuse has blown you'd expect more things not working?

Unfortunately I haven't got a users manual.

I'll find where the fuses are tomorrow and have a look.

I tested all the fuses with a DVM but all were ok.

Just to reiterate:
When I switch on the air con with the fan speed set on 3 nothing at all happens. The engine tone doesn't change or the revs dip.

I've had the car for 1 year and this is the first time I've tried the air con.

Any ideas?

Go beyond a blown fuse and everyone goes quiet ????
yeah, air con is a specialist field, not something you can really sort yourself when it goes wrong. Mainly this is because you need a license to handle and dispose of refrigerant (if i remember correctly).

This doesn't stop the freezers at our shop regularly dumping their entire refrigerant charge into the fresh air though  [/rant]

anyway. take it to a air con specialist, or have them come to you, see what they make of your problem.

you first of all need to know the pressure of gas in the system. sounds like it needs regassed. can you check if the low pressure switch is closed circuit?

correct.

take it to a air con specialist

would recommend this as I am one and it most likely is the LP hose or condenser.
