I always have trouble when wiring/rewiring sockets, shower switches etc that are flush mounted in metal boxes. The gromets are always such a sloppy fit in the holes they keep falling out all the time. I assume this is down to some cock-up in the British Standard dimensions which has never been corrected over the years. Can anyone offer a solution to this problem? Perhaps there is a slightly larger gromet available that would fit properly?

I tend to use a little bit of silicone grease on the grommet to enable cables to slide through easily.
Don't get it in the grommet groove though, or it'll pop out as easily as it pops in!

It is a known problem, but like most sparks your buying the cheap type, look out or ask for the shaped grometts, these do not fall out
