Hi all. I recently moved house and am in the process of sorting out the detached garage, which seems relatively recently built.

I’ve noticed quite a lot of these steel pegs/brackets/things fixed in the mortar around the garage. They are in groups vertically. Will post pics below.

I suppose my first question is what are they? Secondly, how am I best removing them? They seem fixed into the mortar, and I’m wary of tearing them out too forcefully.

    Thanks in advance!

They are cavity wall ties I think, used for holding the two wall leaves together.
No idea why they are used there if it’s a single leaf wall.

the blocks also appear to be to be a sort of hollow brick intended for the inner leaf of cavity walls, made so that plaster grips to it well. Haven't seen them used in a long time.

maybe the previous owners intended one day to build it properly, but never did.

You can't pull the wall ties out, but you could cut them off with an angle grinder. They might be stainless steel.

They are wall ties I would think they are to tie into 225mm brick piers which were to be built in later, they are normally at a maximum spacing of 3m. I would advise you to have this done, they can be done with single blocks or single bricks
