The supply into our house is a very old metal clad cable with what i've been informed is VIR insulation. Close inspection shows the insulation is in poor condition. Its looped across from next door, and it quite shonky.

When we moved in i had the DNO out to inspect it and they said they were all like that in this area, and that he'd book it in for upgrade, but that it wasnt an emergency.

Anyway, i've now recieved a letter saying they will be doing the work in the next two months, and that we'll get ten days written notice, so things seem to be progressing just fine.

Now getting to the point. I would ideally like the horrible backboard that the meter is currently mounted on to disappear and be replaced with something a bit less **** looking. I'm not sure if they plan to replace the backboard when they do the upgrade, but i was considering having a piece of plywood cut to size on hand so that the guys could swap it over when they pull the old crud out.

Does anyone know if they're likely to go for this?

DNO meter boards are treated and are fire resistant, so a piece of ply would be unacceptable.

As posted, wait to you get notification which will include a contact and ask them to change it at the same time.
