does a meter have to be vertical on a wall or can it be fixed horizontally on a ceiling?

My meter is vertically mounted but impedes a door, if I dismount the wooden board its attached to (four screws with ceramic washers) there is enough cable to swing it up and attach to the ceiling where it will no longer be a problem with the door and can also be neatly boxed in, assuming the answer to my first question is YES it can be horizontal, can a part P electrician do this or is it one of these cases where the supplier has to arrange it.

Thanks guys but assuming I get the providers contractor to move it, is there any reason why it cant go horizontally on the ceiling?

I have never seen a meter mounted on the ceiling,, is there any way it can be mounted on the other side of the wall that it is currently on?

If its a dial meter (old fashioned one, sticks out), I wouldn't think it could function correctly due to its mechanism (think of a grandfather clock with weights, tipping it forwards it wont work)

Would a newer digital electronic meter be more suitable? They may change your meter for this, they are smaller and dont stick out, only about an inch deep.

Tell them you want a card prepayment meter, which they will fit FOC.

Then tell them you want a credit meter!

Its what I always tell people who have concernes about the accuracy of the readings.

I could give it a try but is there a charge to have the credit meter fitted after I opt for a prepay and is there a minimum period a prepay has to be in?
