Mixer tap dripping - replaced glands now wont turn off?

Hi, my kitchen mixer tap has dripped for some time despite changing washers etc so I bought 2 new ceramic glands and fitted them however when I turn the water back on the taps now won't fully turn off and continue to run?

I've now put the old dripping ones back.

Have I missed something or do I need to adjust the new glands in some way? Or does my mixer tap simply need replacing?

Any advise appreciated.

A wee bit of a contradiction here...... rubber washered taps are compression while ceramic insert types don't use washers and they aren't interchangeable.
Come back with a picture of what you have removed from your mixer tap.
