depends where you put it.

more info as to what you are trying to do would help

I was going to use the phot elctrical switch mounted outside to switch my outside lights on withing the time span set on the time switch

why?

the only thing i can see with that is the time switch will switch the lights off at a specific time say 22:00

why not just have the time switch?

or better still buy an external to CU time switch for a lot less money

or use lights that will have CFL lamps and leave them on all night

oh.

well yes you can then

feed the photocell from the timeswitch

or put the timeswitch on ebay, have you seen how much they cost new?

Its actually a good idea to have both because the time clock controls the time period and the photocell controls whether lighting is needed or not depending on time of year etc

If its a basic L in L out and Neutral p/cell, I would put the timer contacts

after the photocell output. otherwise the

photocell will usually initialize and the lights will come on for a few

seconds every time the timer comes on, regardless of whether it is light

or dark.

Or you could use a part-night cell if you wanted they come on at a pre set lux level and go off at midnight.
They can be fitted to any NEMA socket base.

Or You'll need a timer with volt-free contacts or a relay.

You want lights on at dusk, off at x o'clock right? I've done this a couple of times.

If you go timer > photocell > lights the photocell may power up for a few mins when the timer kicks in, eg 4pm, many photocells will do this, yours may not, worth checking.

If so, you need photcell > volt free contacts on timer > lights, or

timer > relay coil, then photocell > relay contact > lights.

~
When I've done this I've also fitted a 3 gang switch with master on/off, cell bypass and timer bypass control for easy user fault finding & overide.

it often helps when offering an opinion to read

a) what has already been said

b) what the OP actualy did say

so its all very well suggesting this relay, that relay and photcell, after my suggetion to solve the problem the OP then said

got a job lot for £10  :D

which means he already has the timer and photo cell
