Modular Grid Dimmer - anyone recognise this?

I have a modular set of switches for the various lights in the bathroom. Unfortunately the dimmer component has failed and I am struggling to find an identical replacement.

The one I have clips into the frame at the top but has a screw at the bottom. All the designs I can find use clips top and bottom. My electrician fitted it about 2 1/2 years ago.

I will ask if he remembers where he got the parts from but on the off-chance, does anyone recognise the make or style of the dimmer pictured below to give me a clue where I can get one? :scratchchin:

Hi Deadshort, someone on another forum has identified it as being part of the Newlec frame system by Newey & Eyre. Problem now is that they don't show a dimmer unit in their catalogue but what I'll do is go to Slough with the dud one in my hand and ask for a replacement.

Newey's won't make their own, they will be made by someone else.

Chances are it is Hamilton Litestat. Looks like it.

Try their catalogue.

Its crabtree grid, newlec is the same, any dimmer should fit the grid providing its supplied with a crabtree grid adapter or simply use the adapter from your existing by undoing the nut

Also what are you dimming, that looks like an INDUCTIVE dimmer rather than a normal one.

It also looks like its not correctly connected

Not sure why you say it is inductive, I can see an inductor in it but they are usually just used in series with the supply for smoothing purposes. They are still thyristor driven.

GRID500 is a Richmond part number.

They come with a selection of grid fittings so you should be fine if u get one of those.


PS Ricmond has been assumed into ZANO.

In the past on seeing the VA rating,it would more usually be accociated with inductive dimmers for torroidal trans etc and often more expensive than the basic 400W units suitable for just basic tungsten, halogen use.
Obviously these can still be used to dim virtually anything, I was more concerned the OP may get an alternative dimmer not suitable for his load.

Resistive load dimmers were generally 400W
whereas
Inductive load dimmers were generally 500VA

Thanks for all the help chaps, I hadn't realised I could remover the white plastic bit from the actual dimmer. That's useful info. It's dimming 6 x GU10 50w Halogen downlighters.

ETA: Well, I've ordered the ZanoZGRID500 so I will report back on how I get on

Wow, 300 watts for a bathroom. Glad I don't have to pay your electricity bills.

They're on for no more than 15 mins in the morning and 10 mins at night. It's fine

Can you confirm how that dimmers connected please, it dont seem right.

Rocky, there's only two wires in/out and it's a switch/dimmer so obviously it's the line from the transformer in the loft. I'm just guessing though because it was done by a professional electrician during a full re-fit of the bathroom. On this basis I trust it is correct. The dimmer switches the halogen downlighters, the other two switch some led lights around a mirror and a single downlighter in the shower cubicle which also triggers an integral extractor fan.
