Mortar drying out leaving white stain???

We have recently built a wall and used red building sand to mortar the joints. We have also used the same sand to point in between the paving that we have just laid for our patio.

Now that the mortar is drying out (24 hours later) there appears to be white stains appearing around the paving where we have mortared.

Anyone got any advice re if this will disappear or how to get rid of it???

Is this excess mortar on the slabs causing the stains ? or something else do you think?

It doesn't appear to be any excess mortar on there, that's not to say there was any there which has been brushed off though!

it is effofesence, which is basically the salts from the cement leaching out. It is perfectly normal and will wear off or can be brushed off, although it may continue for some time.
