Ever forgotten which side your petrol filler cap is on? Or if driving a strange vehicle have you ever wondered which side to put nearest the pump, and had to get out and look down the side?
No More!
If you look at the dashboard and, particularly at the fuel gauge, there is a small symbol of a petrol pump.
The hose and nozzle are sticking out of the side of the pump on the side where you will find the filler cap.
Why it is not mentioned in the drivers manual or why showroom bods never tell you is a mystery UNLESS they don't know. But it appears that all car manufacturers use the same symbol technique.
Check yours out next time you get in the car.
Hope it is of use to you,
dave

I have seen this before, unfortunately it is not always correct, some cars have not followed this.

If someone has problems remembering which side of the car the filler cap is on then perhaps putting a sticker on the back of the visor would help.
Or perhaps just do the shopping & get your fella to fill the car for you :D

rubbish
my vans show me then the filler is on the right.
which they are on the left

Ever wondered which side your steering wheel is..?

Tip..........Look through the window.

On a Maz6, the filler is on the left, the pump symbol is on the right, but there's an arrow pointing to the left.

I've wondered why some people wait for a pump to become free so that they can park with the pump on their filler cap side.

The pump hose reaches easily to the other side of the vehicle so why not just pull up at the closest available pump?

Don't give that away, or we'll never be able to sneak in past all the sheep waiting patiently :)...

The position of the nozzle in the diagram is of no consequence. AFAICT, the symbols are internationally agreed.

However, some manufacturers put a small arrow next to it, pointing to the side where the fuel filler is located.

Mazda and parent company Ford do this, I don't know of any others.

I dont like those new petrol pumps where you cant see the hose - it vanishes into the pump base - this is no good when you park at the wrong side! Because you never know if it will be long enough! Cant grumble though - pay at pump is a modern wonder

LOL ...... errrr, exactly how many times do you need reminding where the filler cap is

Much more useful info, is that the petrol hose is actually long enough to reach to the other side of the car  , so there is no need for numpties to queue up at the same pumps or all use the same entrance to the garage, or do those quick dangerous turns before someone pinches their place.

While we are at it, why don't none of them clips work so that you can lock the lever on and leave the nozzle in the filler tube. You could probably have a fag then while waiting for it to fill up.

The pump cuts out automatically, so what is the problem?

And you wouldn't dream of letting any overflow, with the price of it nowadays

handily my local station has them on but i guess they are not allowed in britain for some reason as virtually no where else has them.

my lorry driver mate says you can wedge a coin in the handle to the same effect.

Yeah, but that coin is just to cover the price increase since when he started filling his wagon !
