How about posting some pics of the end result? More interesting than the usual 15mm push-fit.

We're looking to install in August, I'll get some pics when it's done.
Now I've just got to build a radio control system that runs on solar power and works over 600m.... But that's a question for a different forum

Perfectly ?. Nothing is perfect.
The best solution in this case is to use a welded flange adaptor.
Presumably the water in the tank is being used for irrigation purposes so does not have to remain potable.
Then protect the weld with Rustoleum 2185 Galva Zinc which you can purchase in 500ml Aerosols .
