I'm wanting to mount a 6 way gang socket to the back of my media cabinet which has a plywood rear. It's about 4mm thick. I'm wanting to use the mount holes in the gang socket casing so need some sort of screw head to hook it on. I was thinking a bolt secured with some nuts either side of the wood. Any better ways?

3M company make some amazingly strong self-adhesive double-sided tapes.

If you don't want to glue it directly to the cabinet, glue or screw it to a small piece of plywood leaving enough perimeter wood protruding to allow you to screw or hook the assembly to the cabinet.

Another possibility is "Velcro" hook & eye tape.

I think putting a nut on the inside of the cupboard and hence spacing the socket block away from the surface will result in a highly unstable mounting.

how much space is there available? If there is room then personally I'd mount a block of thicker wood on the cabinet (either insider or outside depending on space available) and then use woodscrews to hold the socket block.

I've tried using velcro to hold up extension sockets before without much luck, maybe I wasn't using enough of it or the stuff I was using was too weak.

Thanks for replies so far.

That's a good idea Sam, a holding block with screws each side. there is plenty room for that.
