I have a problem with a main incoming gas pipe, the large 'steel' gas pipe that comes through the floor in the kitchen it too high and prevents my new electric cooker from fitting in the unit - is this an easy thing to lower and roughly how much will it cost to do...I will also need the feed to the gas hob disconnecting then reinstating after I have fitted the new kitchen

Only the gas transporter, National Grid or its agents, can alter the incoming gas main upstream of the gas meter. And since they have a monopoly they aren't going to be cheap.

But it sounds as if you might be referring to the internal pipe to the cooker point, which is a different matter. Can you clarify?

It is the pipe that comes from the gas meter.. not the incoming feed to the meter, it goes under the concrete floor in my house and reappears in the kitchen, there is then a copper pipe from this to the gas hob. hope this makes sense?

So the gas hob connection stops the electric oven from sliding fully back into its housing? That's a common problem, usually fairly simple to correct. I did one on Friday - it took an hour, about £50 worth.

Mind you, in your case it might be more complicated. Is it the steel pipe itself that is blocking the oven? That could be more difficult to move, especially if the nearest pipe socket is buried in the floor.
