There has been a slight change!
The boiler has started to fire for a few 3 and a half minute bursts, after its initial 10 minute firing, before it defaults to its problematic 10 second cycling.
Has it started to self heal???

To take the pump out is where I would start but this can be problematic so call a professional. any amount of advice will not solve your problem.

So two gas engineers later, and neither has found an airlock or sludge in the system. Both agreed on one thing though - they do not know if the pump is failing. Wow!

Sounds like a stat failure to me, I've had one for 22 years and keep a spare just in case it goes down in the winter. The stat that's inside the large upper cowelling on the left, just a few screws to undo and pop the new one on.
