Mystery switch and recommissioning a Scantronic 9448+

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone knows what this switch does that is near my alarm system? I had a new consumer unit a few years ago and the alarm was decommissioned at the time. There is no dedicated breaker in the fuse box for the alarm and the battery and fuse had been removed. There is a breaker for the wired smoke alarm but that doesn't affect the intruder alarm at all. The white switch doesn't seem to do anything that I can see. I think there was originally a wired door sensor but that's been removed years ago when the door was changed.

I've put the fuse back in, which triggers the alarm, that I can silence by entering my code. The white switch doesn't appear to do anything and the green power LED is illuminated and also number 3 LED . Don't know what that means unless it's code for battery removed.

I'm guessing recommissioning is just a case of following the instructions in this YouTube video after I buy a new battery?:

No Idea, your saying the switch doesn't do anything?

You would have to trace it to what is on the other side of the wall/ up the wall ......external light maybe just guessing randomly

Can't see that is does anything. Doesn't affect my electricity IHD live use when I switch it on.

I always assumed it was for the alarm given its proximity. I did have some weird outside light arrangement when I moved in years ago that seemed to have a mind of it's own on a three way switch in the hall (with the downstairs and upstairs lights on the other two switches). I had the outside lights replaced and wired correctly so maybe it has something to do with that, but I can't remember the electrician saying anything about it and it's very high up - not a particularly useful place for an outside light switch. There is power going out to the garage but this switch doesn't affect that and there is a breaker for that circuit and the garage has it's own CU.

Only other thing that I can think of that's changed since I've been here is that I had a combi installed and the HW cylinder removed so that switch in the airing cupboard upstairs is no longer active - could it have been a backup isolator switch for the immersion heater?

Maybe it will just have to stay off and a mystery!

EDIT: I took the cover off and this is what it looks like - I've measured the black and red with my multimeter and it's reading 240V to the switch.

Yeah I think that is it - I would love to know what though! I flipped some breakers with my multimeter connected and it's currently on the first floor lighting circuit, so who knows.

Sorry I don't know what on flex means - is that the cable that feeds the switch? Just looks like standard twin and earth with a white jacket.

Switching it on and off when I have the multimeter connected doesn't change the reading - is stays at 240v. But when I flip the breaker on the first floor (upstairs) lights, the reading drops to 0.5v.

Maybe it was the old security light outside and the electrician has connected the old wiring to the first floor lighting circuit when I had the CU updated? I can't remember anyone saying anything about that switch when I had the new outdoor lights wired or when the CU was installed. I do remember the old security light was wired in a weird way though as the electrician was having a moan about it so maybe it's a remnant of that being sorted out.

Nothing bad is happening anyway, I'm just a bit curious. I've taken too much of you guys time now as this is nothing to do with the alarm as I first thought. I've learnt some stuff though.

hard to see if its white twin and earth or flex on the the phone.

Not a sparky, so cant advise any more than trace it, if it goes nowhere the maybe it did go to the old light.

It clearly has one cable that goes to the CU. Nothing more to be discovered!

most likely, but seen enough out there not to make assumptions on things I cant see or haven't traced.
