Hi all, just wondered if anyone can help with any information on the gas valve on the above NH MK2? For my sins I have been asked to look at this boiler for a friend, now we all know favours cost you money but I still said I'd have a look..... Well so far it's cost me £140 for a new Mercury switch, I know I should have checked the voltage at the gas valve connections but didn't have my MM with me so couldn't. So now I get 230 on wire 1 when pilot established and then 230 on wire 2 when MS has proved so looks like main gas solenoid is shot. I have been looking through the Neataheat posts and there was some talk about just replacing the solenoid coil, is this possible with this valve, I have done it on various other valves but this one is all enclosed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would have post this in CC but my card is in my van and I need a quick answer Ta :(

Thought so, must be the later valve that everyone is talking about replacing the solenoid. So now I need an obsolete valve that people are charging silly money for......

Er, no, none of the Netaheat 2F valves had officially replaceable solenoids.
The boiler's had its day, really, at 25-30 years old. I put mine in 28 years ago, & wouldn't spend any money on it now.

I know I should replace it but as it's a friend they will want it done for next to nothing and the whole system needs bringing up to spec. If it wasn't the mother of someone that gives me 50% of my work I wouldn't even entertain fixing it. Ho hum...........

It's a long time since I've worked on one of these - but, have you checked that you've got 'a really good pilot flame?' [quote from Pott Tech]. I suppose that if the mercury vapour switch is operating, then you must have, but it's worth a look.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the fact i get 230v on the out put to the main solenoid then I would agree. I will have to bite the bullet and get a gas valve. The annoying thing is, some where I have got one of these valves laying around but as you know, fitters aren't the tidyest of people, well all he lot I know aren't!! i'm going have a root around in my garage now and see what I can find...........

If the Customer is responsible for 50% of your turnover I would think that you could "loose" some of the cost of replacing the boiler against other projects from the same customer??

You'll be doing well to find a valve for that old crock!! ;)

p.s. I would be very nervous having one client representing 50% of my work-load!!

Yep, thats the little bugger. Now that wasn't on there last night when I was looking! On the other subject, it can be a little worrying at times having half my eggs in their basket but the money is good so i'm not complaining. I just hate changing boilers, done so many of them when I was an apprentice, and a lot being the early Neataheats and Mexico's that now I just like the maintenance side of things........

I really need to get into this ebay stuff and sell sh...........cartloads of junk that might be of use to some poor c........person in need
