Hi all

Just got back off xmas hols and have returned to find my boiler is refusing to start due to low water pressure. Must admit I'm a complete novice with things like this but I've read the "how to" on using a filling loop, and it sounds simple enough.

The problem I'm having is that my filling loop doesn't really look like the pictures I've seen, and I have no idea what I should be twisting or turning.

Hopefully the image below will work:

The thing on the left of the filling loop is a phillips-head screw. It's currently tightened, if I turn it (anti-clockwise) the screw starts to come out (I've been told it should just turn without actually coming out the pipe?). I've given it a good couple of turns and no sound of water flowing. The thing on the right is like an octagon or something, looks like I'd need a spanner or something to turn. Can anyone give me any pointers? The photo is deliberately quite wide-angled in case there's something else I need to turn?

Thanks in advance, appreciate any advice

looks like the original handle has crumbled and fallen off.
the left hand side fitting with the screw is the filler you can remove the screw it only held the handle on
underneath you should find a valve head with two flats just use an adjustable to turn it a little until water starts to flow - top up to just over 1 bar and turn back to closed position.
be aware that the filling loop does not comply with the water regulations and i advise that it is replaced with a WRAS approved one (2 isolators)

Remove the screw on the left valve, use a spanner,to let water into system.
Simples

that's brilliant, appreciate your time!

...embarrassingly, I'll have to buy a spanner this afternoon but with any luck my heating woes will be over.

Once again, thanks for the help. I'll get onto the landlord to sort out the WRAS approved filling loop (he would have come round and sorted it but he's broken his leg on his skiing holiday - must be paying him too much rent!)
