need help vauxhall astra 1.4 16v 2000

Hi to all, please can some one help me i own a astra g 1.4 16v x reg.
just had head gasket done water pump and cambelt and iam still having problems with overheating when iam driving all seems ok but when i am stuck in traffic it start to over heat temp gauge goes over half way i think it could be a sticking thermostat lucky its the 16v. just need some advise before i throw more money at it thanks vaughan1

You are lucky it only goes so far. If it was really overheating it would go all the way. I presume your fan kicks in at about half way? If so i do not really see any problem. My Meriva behaves exactly the same way.

The radiator (and top hose) will be clay cold until the thermostat opens - and then it will be suddenly very hot all over.
So long as the radiator core is clear (you can check this to some degree by pouring water in at the top, and seeing how well it flows out of the bottom hose connection) it does sound like the thermostat is stuck.
