Hi - hoping someone can help me...
I'm removing the floor tiles in the kitchen with the aim of putting down new ones. It's a concrete floor and the tiles are stuck with a grey hard adhesive but under this is a thin black layer of something before you get to the concrete floor. Any ideas what this is? I guess maybe self leveling compound. Is is better to remove this and put down some new stuff before tiling?

Just remove any loose and high bits, then apply a new coat of self leveling compound

The thin black layer sounds more like asphalt/bitumin...can you post up pictures?

Or hope someone has not just put a dpm sheet down and tiled onto this!!!

Again if you can posts pics, that would help.
