Thanks for the replies- sadly no grill setting- only a small oven at the top which works fine- guess ill have to wait a while and see if it dries out- will keep you posted!

remove earth from element then run it dont touch it then turn off at wall re fit earth and see if that dry it out and dont trip if still trips u need new element

The element sheath is a seal, if water got in then the element will probably breakdown soon.

Update; disconnected the earth cable in the wall switch- turned oven on and it didn't trip the rcd- left it on for a while then re-connected the earth and everything seems fine! So fingers crossed the problem may be sorted !

Thanks for all the advice .

Wife used the oven cleaner programme and bottom oven would not start, just tripped the RCD.
1. Put a bowl of rice in the oven overnight
2 Next day oven worked for 10 seconds and then tripped
3. Started 10 or so times and stayed on for a maximum of 25 seconds.
4 Stood a fan heater on the door , facing inwards.
5 2 hours later oven started and stayed on.

The magic of rice!!!
