Dear Experts,
I'd like my new boiler to go in this alcove:
A challenge is of course the gas meter. It was previously in a small cupboard, which I've dismantled from around it; I would rebuild something for both the meter and the boiler, presumably behind separate doors.
The pipes come under the floor, from about where I'm standing under the OSB board in the bottom of the picture. Ideally they'd go under the floor under the meter, then come up behind it towards the boiler. But there is basically no space between the back of the meter and where the plasterboard wall will be:
So it looks like they would need to run to the right of the meter and then shuffle across to reach the boiler.
Questions for the experts:
- Are there any minimum distances that I need to know about? I.e. separation between a gas meter and water pipes.
- Modern meters are smaller; are they smaller by enough that my boiler pipes could run vertically behind the meter?
- Would a regular gas-safe-registered heating engineer be able to adjust the meter pipework on the supply side to move it fractionally further into the room?
- Any other issues with fitting a boiler above a gas meter that I've not thought about?
Thanks!
